Organize and Nest Chapters

The order and hierarchy of your Chapters determines the flow of your Story for viewers.

Change a Parent Chapter's order

To change the order of your chapters, drag a chapter above or below another. Parent Chapters will play in sequence on Chapter types that can end without viewer interactions.

Nest a Chapter

To create a Nested Chapter, simply drag a chapter to the right of the desired Parent Chapter. After playing, Nested Chapters will resume the previous Chapter for Chapter types that can end without viewer interactions. Resuming a Parent Chapter will reset viewer progress on all Nested Chapters.

Nesting Guidelines

You'll find below specific guidelines for each Chapter type regarding whether they are well-suited as Parent Chapters, Nested Chapters, or both.

Video Chapters

  • Parent - Video Chapters work well as Parent Chapters and can use hotspots to link to Chapters nested within.
  • Nested - Users who click on a hotspot connected to a nested Video Chapter watch the nested video. When it’s finished, they will automatically resume the previous Chapter.

Slideshow Chapters

  • Parent - Slideshow Chapters are not recommended as parents to Nested Chapters as they don't allow for hotspots.
  • Nested - Users who click on a hotspot connected to a nested Slideshow Chapter watch the presentation of stills or video. When it’s finished, they will automatically resume the previous Chapter.

Pathfinder Chapters

  • Parent - Pathfinder Chapters both work well as parent chapters and can use hotspots to link to Chapters nested within.
  • Nested - Users who click on a hotspot connected to a nested Pathfinder Chapter must select either a hotspot or the back button navigation in order to resume previous content or advance to new content.

Explainer Chapters

  • Parent - Explainer Chapters are not recommended as parents to Nested Chapters as they don't allow for hotspots.
  • Nested - Users who click on a hotspot connected to a nested Explainer Chapter must select a question or the back button navigation to resume to the previous Chapter.
